Every wooden product from Built by Phil is handcrafted from natural wood and finished with a blend of food-grade mineral oil and natural beeswax. This finish helps protect the wood while highlighting its natural beauty.

Because wood is a living, natural material, each piece will develop its own character over time. With a little care, your product can be enjoyed for many years.

Everyday Care

Clean Gently

  • Wipe clean with a damp cloth after use.
  • Dry immediately with a soft towel.
  • Avoid soaking or leaving the product in standing water.

Never Put It In

  • Dishwasher
  • Microwave
  • Sterilizer
  • Oven
  • Freezer

Extreme heat, moisture, and rapid temperature changes can cause wood to crack, warp, or split.

Refreshing the Finish

Over time, the finish may begin to look dry or dull. This is completely normal.

  1. To restore the wood:
  2. Clean and dry the product.
  3. Apply a small amount of food-grade mineral oil or a beeswax/mineral oil wood conditioner.
  4. Rub it in with a soft cloth.
  5. Allow it to absorb for several hours or overnight.
  6. Buff away any excess with a clean cloth.

Reapply whenever the wood begins to appear dry.

Product-Specific Care

Wooden Baby Toys & Rattles

  • Inspect before each use.
  • If you notice cracks, loose parts, or damage, discontinue use immediately.
  • Do not soak or boil to sanitize.
  • Clean using a damp cloth and allow to air dry completely.
  • Adult supervision is always recommended during use.

Wooden Cars & Toys

  • Wipe clean with a damp cloth.
  • Avoid prolonged outdoor exposure.
  • Store in a cool, dry place when not in use.

Cutting Boards & Kitchen Items

  • Hand wash only.
  • Dry immediately after washing.
  • Never leave submerged in water.
  • Recondition regularly with mineral oil or a beeswax conditioner to prevent drying and cracking.
